Endocytosis of insulin at the blood-brain barrier

For insulin to act within the brain, it is primarily transported from blood across blood-brain barrier (BBB). However, endocytic machinery necessary for delivering brain remains unknown. Additionally, there are processes endothelial cell that designed respond binding and elicit intracellular signaling. Using pharmacological inhibitors of different types endocytosis (clathrin-vs. caveolin-mediated), we investigated molecular mediators both BBB in isolated mouse microvessels transport mice studied by perfusion. We found clathrin-mediated mechanisms responsible surface while caveolin-mediated may mediate specifically hypothalamus. These results further define transporting into CNS highlight distinction between internalization transendothelial vs.
